| On April 15, 1938, the original 61st Brigade was disbanded and the remnants of the brigade were sent to Madrid on April 30 to be reorganized into the 8th Division. After the restructuring, she was assigned to the 65th Division, with which she left for the Levantine Front on May 13. After a brief concentration in Liria, she moved to a sector in the south of the province of Teruel between the port of Escandón and the river Valboa. 28.6. on was involved in the defense against the attack of the 85th Division of National Forces on Formiche Bajo and Loma del Erizal and put up stiff resistance. Republican forces were slowly losing ground until they settled in the X-Y-Z defensive line, which the brigade reached on July 21. At this time, the 65th Division was disbanded and the brigade was incorporated into the 68th Division in Chiva. On July 25, when Republican troops crossed the Ebro, the offensive in the Levant was suspended. 61st Brigade was assigned to the 41st Division and moved with it to Extremadura. Shortly afterwards, it became part of the 63rd Division. It was at the junction of the Extremadura army with the Andalusian army, near the confluence of the Yeguas and Guadalquivir rivers, but did not take part in the last great battle in Extremadura, the Battle of Peñarroya. |
